Cologne Fragrance is for Men or Women

Many people believe that cologne fragrance is strictly for men. That isn’t true. Cologne is simply a scent product which contains less concentrated oils. Perfume typically has 15-40% aromatic components and cologne has 3-8% of the same compounds. Men, in general, wear less intense fragrances; so, as a result, the generic name for a man’s scent has become cologne.

When searching for a cologne fragrance, you will follow many of the same rules which apply when seeking a perfume. Since colognes are lighter, you can pick a more energetic fragrance because the lower concentration of aromatic components won’t overwhelm people as easily. Look for something in a family of perfumes that you like. Many manufacturers actually make colognes as well as perfumes based upon the same fragrance, providing the customers with a lighter daytime version that matches their evening perfume.

In the men’s market the days of Old Spice are fading. A perennial favorite, it has now been joined by a full-fledged market catering specifically to men. Just like in women’s fragrances, men’s colognes are affected by a person’s body chemistry. Make sure to try on the cologne in question.
